I received a call today from some old friends whom I had not spoken to in many years and a thought occurred to me: What impact would we notice if we made the effort to maintain our close relationships throughout life? How much more meaningful would our lives be knowing we had friendships that went beyond pleasantries? What I am speaking of here are friends who are so much a part of our lives that if we were to call them in the early morning hours with a concern, they would spring out of bed to be at our side. These were the friendships Christ developed were they not? He made Himself available to His friends when the stormy seas of life tossed them around. Our Savior took the time to listen, to teach, and to love. In fact, one of the messages of the Cross is this very principle (I love you so much! Here is my life!).
So my challenge to all of us is this: Call up an old friend today and work to reestablish the bond which may have faded. Your life will be fuller.
